IGNITE Peoria - CIYS Summer Orchestra
Are you looking for something to do this summer? You're in luck!
The CIYS will be partnering with the Cornerstone Academy for the Performing Arts in a joint performance at IGNITE Peoria! IGNITE Peoria is a celebration of the arts in Peoria, held at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday, August 8th.
All CIYS members are invited to participate in this summer activity. If you auditioned this spring and received an acceptance packet, or you were a senior in the CIYS and just graduated, you're welcome to join.
Rehearsals are from 4-5 p.m. on:
Saturday, August 8 - 1:00 p.m. at the Peoria Civic Center
Participation Fee: $20
Please sign up by June 19, 2015 so that we can have parts ready for you!
David Commanday, Youth Symphony Conductor
We are very excited to have David Commanday with us next season as our new Youth Symphony Conductor! Mr. Commanday has had wide experience and a history of success with young and pre-professional orchestras. He is currently Artist in Residence and Adjunct Faculty Instructor in Music at Eureka College, and Conductor of the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra at the Community Music School of Webster University (St. Louis). He has conducted and taught at Harvard University, Boston University, MIT, the Longy School of Music, the Tanglewood Institute, and Virginia Commonwealth University, working with orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and private cello, bass, and guitar students at these institutions.

The Central Illinois Youth Symphony is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fulfilling the need for a superior musical organization that will challenge, educate, and stimulate the young musicians of central Illinois. Founded as a single symphony in 1965 by visionary music educators, the CIYS has grown to encompass three orchestras and an extensive chamber music program.
