Tuition Aid Scholarship Application

Because financial aid funds are limited, tuition scholarships are awarded based on need. In order to effectively award funds to musicians, the Scholarship Committee asks that you consider your need for tuition assistance prior to submitting this application. Each applicant will be notified in writing of the Committee's decision.

CONGRATULATIONS TO...

Courtney Silver (CIYS - violin), winner of the 2009 Peoria Young Artists Concerto Competition. She will appear as guest soloist with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra at the Peoria Symphony Guild’s annual student concerts, which are scheduled for April 28 at the Peoria Civic Center. Besides appearing at the student concerts, the winner receives a $300 Peoria Symphony Guild Scholarship supported, in part, by the Alice Oakley Memorial. Courtney performed the first movement from Symphonie Espagnole by Edouard Lalo in the competition. She is the student of Marcia Henry Liebenow, concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and a Bradley University faculty member.
First runner-up in the competition was Lance Jessurun (CIYS - violin) of Normal, who will receive a $100 scholarship. Lance performed the third movement from Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor and is the student of Vadim Mazo, an Illinois Wesleyan University faculty member.
Stevan Lukich (CIYS - violin) of Chillicothe tied for second runner-up. Stevan is a violin student of Marcia Henry Liebenow, and performed the allegro from Concerto in C major by Dmitry Kabelevsky.

*ALUMNI UPDATES...

Congratulations to former CIYS Assistant Concertmaster, Amy Schlicher (violin '99-'07), who was one of two first place winners in the Peoria Young Artists Competition held on Saturday, February 9. Her winning piece was the first movement of Dvorak's Concerto for Violin in A minor. She will perform her winning solo with the Peoria Symphony at the Young People's Concert held on April 15.
Amy has also been named a winner of this year’s Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra “Stars of Tomorrow” Concerto Competition. She performed the first movement of the Dvorak Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53, and will play her winning piece with the orchestra in Belleville on October 18. Amy will attend the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she will study with Mark Kaplan.

Latest news for Leah Lucas (viola '94-'98) BA Viola Performance, Roosevelt University: Chicago Musical College (2002) MA Viola Performance, University of California Santa Barbara (2006). Leah has just accepted the position of Director of Education & Youth Development for the Sphinx Organization, Detroit, Michigan. She begins her duties on November 5, 2007.

Jeff Holbrook, former principal trumpet in CIYS from '00 - '02 was named the principal trumpet of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea. The appointment came after an international audition and a six week trial period as principal for the SPO's summer season. Jeff has just completed his BM in Trumpet performance at The Juilliard School. Jeff welcomes emails at : jholbro@gmail.com

Everyone please remember that we are guests. We need to stay in the designated areas and treat these facilities and others in the church with respect. No food or drink is allowed - only water. Your assistance in this is very important so that we can continue to use these facilities.
