The Central Illinois
Youth Symphony and the Central Illinois Concert
Orchestra have served almost 2200 students since their beginnings
in 1965 and 1970 respectively. Presently each symphonic orchestra has
approximately 65 members. In 1995 a String Prep
Orchestra was added which gives our younger students an opportunity
to participate in an orchestra. Nearly 225 students in grades four through
twelve audition each year for string, brass, woodwind and percussion positions.
As a member of the Central Illinois Youth Symphony Organization, students
have opportunities to play challenging repertoire and enrich their personal
musicianship. The school orchestras and bands benefit from the many skills
and leadership abilities the students develop by participating in our
symphonies. For some musicians the CIYS/CICO/PREP orchestras provides
them with The Central Illinois Youth Symphony Organization is proud to be a part of the Central Illinois culture and youth music opportunity.
The Szepessy Foundation is established to provide funds for furthering the music education of members of the Central Illinois Youth Symphony Organization. Contributors to the foundation, giving either an individual or corporate gift or a donation as a memorial, will be acknowledged in the CIYS programs and will become a permanent part of the foundation.
